Friends of the High Line (FHL) is the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation’s not-for-profit partner working to ensure the High Line is maintained as a great public space for all New Yorkers and visitors to enjoy. Founded in 1999 by neighborhood residents Joshua David and Robert Hammond, FHL advocated for the High Line’s preservation when the structure was under threat of demolition, and in the past decade, drove its transformation from an abandoned, elevated rail track into a public space where nature, art, and design intersect.

The High Line is at a pivotal moment in its already-exciting history. With nearly 8 million visitors annually, the High Line is committed to being a public park for the residents of New York City and its local neighbors. In addition to overseeing the maintenance and operations of the High Line, as well as raising the essential private funding necessary to complete the High Line's construction, FHL offers a robust calendar of public art and programming. FHL is currently working to expand its year-round schedule of innovative free and low-cost programs for the public and members of Friends of the High Line.

The Program Assistant will administer and assist in the execution of the High Line’s various public programming, education, and community engagement initiatives—both on and off the park. Supporting the Programming Department with leadership from the Chief Program Officer, the Assistant will liaise with FHL staff, volunteers, and members of the public as we provide hundreds of free & low-cost activities for the public, aiming to build an inclusive, vibrant community around the High Line.
